## Tuesday, August 26, 2014 - NS.3. I can apply decimals using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

**Bell work**- Student assessment over addition and subtraction of decimals were graded and returned. Students who missed problems, analyzed their work, corrected their mistakes, then tried a similar problem. Work was regraded for full credit. Everyone looks great in this area! Meanwhile, students who scored 100% worked on the following warm-up questions.

**Classwork**

(1)

__Unit 1 Project (decimals) was introduced__. Examples for how to find tax was demonstrated and project components discussed. Due date is Friday, September 5th. Remember, you do not have to buy anything for this project :-)

(2)

__Merry-Go-Round__- Students worked with a partner of their choice to solve a variety of multi-level problems involving decimals using addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Problems involving division mostly centered around whole numbers. There were a few problems where decimals were used. Student self-assessed their work as solutions were provided at each station.

**Homework**- None! Start thinking about your project. If you didn't finish "Activity 23 - Multiplying Decimals," last night, you need to finish it tonight.

## Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - NS.3. I can divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm.

**Bell Work**- Students finished an assessment for multiplying multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. Afterwards, they solved the following problems.

**Classwork**

(1) Homework discussed - "Activity 23" - multiplying multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm.

(2) Reviewed solutions for yesterday's merry-go-round questions - applying addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithms.

(3) Created a foldable graphic organizer for dividing multi-digit decimals.

(4) Worked on "Daffynition Decoder."

**Homework**- Finish "Daffynition Decoder" - located on the back of "Activity 23" (Monday night's homework).

## Thursday, August 28, 2014 - NS.3. I can divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm.

**Bell Work**

**Classwork**

(1) Homework questions. Solutions posted below.

(2)

**Decimal Bingo**- Compete against your opponent to see who will be the first to get three (or four) solutions right in a row. Use estimation skills to block your opponent and out-smart them. Take turns and make sure to divide to the thousandths place unless the quotient terminates before then. Round your quotient to the nearest hundredth. Turn in organized work.

## Friday, August 29, 2014 - NS.3. I can multiply and divide multi-digit decimals using standard algorithms.

**Bell Work**

**Classwork**

(1) Homework was checked while completing bell work. Remember, step 1 - move the decimal out of the divisor, step 2 - move the decimal the same number of spaces out of the dividend (add zeroes for placeholders), step 3 - move the decimal point up (from the dividend), then step 4 - divide. Most everyone is using the algorithm correctly. Keep up the good work!

**Classwork (continued)**

(3) "Addition and Subtraction of Decimals" assessment was returned to post in notebook. Everyone is at 100% accuracy! Go Team 601!!!!

(4) "Multiplication with Decimals" assessment returned for corrections. Solutions for the original questions were demonstrated and time was given for students to complete alternative questions. Students received personal conferences over their work. Students who reached 100% worked on "34 Search and Shade" - all operations with multi-digit decimals. Gradebook will reflect current accuracy with multiplying with decimals. This score will change after more remediation on Tuesday, September 2nd.

**Homework**- Don't forget,

__Shopping P____. Decimals__

**roject - due Friday, September 5th**__. Have an awesome weekend!!!__

**test scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd**
