Monday, November 4, 2013 Equivalent Rationals
Measurement Project was due today and collected at the start of class.
Unit 2 Test scheduled for Friday, November 8th Ratios, Rates, and Proportions (includes equivalent rationals and percent proportion)
Bell Work: Holt textbook p.388 #57 61.
Students renamed fractions, decimals and percents to place each set of rationals in order from least to greatest. The graphic organizer completed last week can be used for support. Students were guided to copy the original set of rationals for each problem, show work for renaming the rationals, then place the rationals in order from least to greatest using inequality signs.
3rd and 4th Period Completed the pretest for Unit 3 then worked on completing "Rational Pictures" for extra credit in the 30% category. Extra credit should be completed by Thanksgiving.
5th and 6th Period After Bell Work, students worked on finishing Set D from "Equivalent Rationals" which will be collected at the start of class tomorrow. Extra credit will be explained and given tomorrow.

Tuesday, November 5, 2013 Percent Problems/Proportions
Bell Work: Holt textbook p.354 #2, 8, 10, 11 and p.358 #118.
Students reviewed ratios, unit rate and using proportions.
Students reviewed ratios, unit rate and using proportions.
Students received guided practice on solving problems involving percents using proportions. Focus was spent on interpreting each problem/scenario and understanding whether the information given represents a part or the whole before setting up a proportion. Please see the notes for the assignment. Students were to finish these problems for homework.

In question 1, you are trying to figure out how many of the 80 shirts sold were size medium. The whole is 80 total shirts, so that should be the denominator along with 100%.

In question 2, you are trying to find out how much time is needed for Lori to finish reading the book. So far, she has read for 5 hours which is a part of the whole time and represents 25% of the book. 5 needs to be the numerator and the variable n represents the total time.
After you figure out that she would take a total of 20 hours to finish the entire book, subtract 5 hours (because that's how much time she has already spent reading) from 20. 15 hours is how long it will take her to finish reading the book.
EXTRA CREDIT Rational Pictures
Complete by November 22, 2013. Please turn in for review anytime before then. I will keep giving you feedback until you get 100. Nothing less can go into my grade book! Make sure you follow the directions on the handout given in class. They are not written on the examples below. Have fun and be creative!

Thursday, November 7, 2013 Review for Test
Homework: Study for Unit 2 Test by reviewing work involving ratios, rate, unit rate, proportions, and equivalent rationals. Work should include, but are not limited to, Bell Work problems this week, "Unit Rate Practice," "Equivalent Rationals Sets AD," and p.392 #118. Higher score on the unit rate portion of the test will replace score for "Unit Rate Practice" assignment #110. Solutions for this assignment were discussed today and are attached below as well as solutions for "Equivalent Rationals Set D." I will check for p.392 #118 and Equivalent Rationals tomorrow. Students should have corrected their work for Set D in class today.
Bell Work: p.364 #19, p.371372 #1, 3, 4, and 7. Students received guided practice on using proportions to solve missing lengths of similar figures.
